PAF turns 30!

PAF turns 30!

The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.  ~ Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi

Our organization was established in 1983 as the Elizabeth Foundation through the generosity of Dorothy Slaughter and Elizabeth Keeling and other community members through an endowment fund. With funding from the BC Gaming Branch, donations and memberships over the past 30 years we have continued to foster the dream of the original members and have awarded over a million dollars in grants to eligible individuals and groups involved in the arts in our community.  This work is carried on primarily by our board of directors who are all volunteers. Over the years we have been blessed with some wonderful members and somehow we have kept the ball rolling. It is hard work and always a challenge to find ways to have enough funds to match the needs of the community. We never lack in requests for our support.

Carol Monaghan, one of our long term board members retired last year after many years of hard work on the board and we would like to thank her for her service. We will be listing the names of all of our past directors on our website. They may have moved on but they constitute an important part of the fabric that is Peninsula Arts Foundation.

“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.”~Pablo Picasso. Well how about having a glass of wine with us and explore Painting with Wine on February 28 th at Rivers Bend Winery from 6:00 to 9:30 pm. We will start off the evening with a brief wine tasting and then instructor Leslie Redhead will guide us throug h the process. Surprisingly like watercolour painting the layers applied create a beautiful end result. You can book your space by calling Mary Wiebe at 778-294-4971 Space is limited so book early. The cost is $50 per person. This includes your materials, wine tasting, tote bag and your own artwork to display proudly. No experience is required. All proceeds go to the Peninsula Arts Foundation’s scholarship program.

This is the first workshop we will be hosting in 2013. We are exploring others ideas like pottery, dying silk scarves, jewellery making and other forms of art. We encourage you to contact us if you have suggestions for classes that you would enjoy seeing us put on. Stay tuned to our website’s events page for future classes. There are many things we can do but we have to make them affordable, find a suitable place to hold the event and also an instructor that will be willing to teach the class. Our goal is to broaden the awareness of the community to our existence and find new ways to fundraise wh ile having some fun doing it. We hope you will join us and tell your friends about it too.
